US steel mill shipments drop 0.8 percent in June

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of June 2018, US steel mills shipped 7,988,026 net tons, a 0.8 percent decrease from the 8,056,366 net tons shipped in the previous month, May 2018, and a 3.2 percent increase from the 7,736,846 net tons shipped in June 2017. 

Shipments year-to-date in 2018 are 47,304,057 net tons, a 4.1 percent increase vs. 2017 shipments of 45,459,086 net tons for six months.

 A comparison of June shipments to the previous month of May shows the following changes:  hot rolled sheets, down 1 percent; cold rolled sheets, down 2 percent; and hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 2 percent.
