US steel exports up 7.9 percent in October

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, monthly steel exports in October 2018 increased 7.9 percent from September to total 572,513 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 29.6 percent decrease. In terms of value, US steel exports in October totaled $868.2 million, compared to $816.1 million in September and $1.06 billion in October 2017.

Steel exports to Canada in October increased 2.9 percent from the preceding month to 250,238 mt, but decreased 36.1 percent from October 2017. Exports to Mexico increased by 16.1 percent month-on-month to 263,967 mt, which is down 16.9 percent from the same month a year ago.

Other top destinations for US steel exports in October include: India, with 5,462 mt; China, with 5,057 mt; Dominican Republic, with 3,834 mt; Brazil, with 2,687 mt; and Pakistan, with 2,641 mt.

Major steel products exported in October include HDG, at 99,373 mt; cut-length plates, at 61,534 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 50,262 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 44,515 mt; and hot rolled bars, at 34,671 mt.
