US steel exports down 4.9 percent in June

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, monthly steel exports in June 2019 decreased 4.9 percent from May to total 543,153 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 34.5 percent decrease. In terms of value, US steel exports in June totaled $812.7 million, compared to $882.5 million in May and $1.21 billion in June 2018.

Steel exports to Canada in June increased 7.3 percent from the preceding month to 253,423 mt, and decreased 46.1 percent from June 2018. Exports to Mexico decreased 14.9 percent month-on-month to 229,995 mt, which is down 13.2 percent from the same month a year ago.

Other top destinations for US steel exports in June include: India, with 5,364 mt; China, with 4,545 mt; Brazil, with 3,768 mt; Dominican Republic, with 3,656 mt; and Sweden, with 3,387 mt.

Major steel products exported in June include HDG, at 103,629 mt; cut-length plates, at 75,551 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 35,459 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 34,927 mt; and heavy structural shapes (beams), at 29,966 mt.
