US steel exports down 0.9 percent in February

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, monthly steel exports in February 2020 decreased 0.9 percent from January to total 581,700 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 6.9 percent increase. In terms of value, US steel exports in February totaled $786.8 million, compared to $798.3 million in January and $818.4 million in February 2019.

Steel exports to Canada in February decreased 0.4 percent from the preceding month to 279,383 mt, and increased 26.2 percent from February 2019. Exports to Mexico increased 1.2 percent month-on-month to 249,672 mt, which is down 2.3 percent from the same month a year ago.

Other top destinations for US steel exports in February include: China, with 5,314 mt; Dominican Republic, with 5,170 mt; India, with 4,974 mt; Korea, with 2,524 mt; and Pakistan, with 2,467 mt.

Major steel products exported in February include HDG, at 107,235 mt; cut-length plates, at 74,545 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 44,629 mt; plates in coils, at 36,221 mt; and beams, at 35,938 mt.
