US steel and iron scrap exports up 4 percent in April

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,550,132 mt in April 2018, a 4.0 percent increase month-on-month and a 31.7 percent increase year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in April with 328,541 mt, which dropped 5.2 percent month-on-month but increased 4.4 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in April 2018 include: Mexico, with 230,150 mt; Taiwan, with 200,114 mt; Bangladesh, with 193,060 mt; and China, with 118,976 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $551.0 million in April 2018, a 1.4 percent increase compared to March and a 35.8 percent increase compared to April 2017.
