US standard pipe imports rise 38.3 percent in July

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 116,991 mt in July 2017, up 38.3 percent from June and up 158.7 percent from July 2016 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $100.2 million in July 2017, compared to $74.9 million in the previous month and $41.4 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most wire rod from Turkey in July, with 16,601 mt, compared to 3,480 mt in June and 1,434 mt in July 2016. Other top sources of imported wire rod in July include Vietnam, with 14,566 mt; Korea, with 13,905 mt; Canada, with 13,396 mt; UAE, with 12,913 mt; and China, with 11,278 mt.
