US rig count rises while Canadian count soars again

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending January 12 the US rotary rig count increased by 15 to 939 rigs following a five-rig decrease the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas increased by five to 187 while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by 10 to 752. The overall rig count is now up by 280 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count surged by 102 to 276 rigs in the week ending January 12 following a 38-rig increase the week before. The Canadian rig count is still down by 39 rigs from the same week a year ago.
