US rig count rises slightly week-on-week while Canadian count declines

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending February 8, the US rotary rig count increased by four to 1,049 rigs following a 14-rig decrease the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas decreased by three to 195, while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by seven to 854. The overall rig count is now up by 74 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by three to 240 rigs in the week ending February 8, following an 11-rig increase the week before. The Canadian rig count is still down by 85 rigs compared to the same week a year ago.
