Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending February 23 the US rotary rig count increased by three to 978 rigs following a neutral trend the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas increased by two to 179 while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by one to 799. The overall rig count is now up by 224 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by 12 to 306 rigs in the week ending February 23 following a seven-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is now down by 35 rigs from the same week a year ago.
