US rig count edges up while Canadian count continues to rise

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending August 16, the US rotary rig count increased by one to 935 rigs following an eight-rig decrease the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas decreased by four to 165, while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by six to 770. The overall rig count is still down by 122 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by two to 142 rigs in the week ending August 16, following a three-rig increase the week before. The Canadian rig count is now down by 70 rigs compared to the same week a year ago.
