US rig and Canadian rig counts both rise week-on-week

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending June 1, the US rotary rig count increased by one to 1,060 rigs following a 13-rig increase the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas decreased by one to 197 while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by two to 861. The overall rig count is now up by 144 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by 18 to 99 rigs in the week ending June 1, following a two-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is now at the same level compared to the same week a year ago.
