US rebar imports up 54.1 percent in April

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 111,108 mt in April 2020, up 54.1 percent from March and up 31.4 percent from April 2019 levels. By value rebar imports totaled $53.7 million in April 2020, compared to $36.1 million in the previous month and $43.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Turkey in April, with 45,827 mt, compared to 19,747 mt in March and zero tonnage in April 2019. Other top sources of imported rebar in April include Spain, with 33,648 mt; Mexico, with 26,133 mt; and Canada, with 4,867 mt.
