US rebar imports down 5.4 percent in March

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 91,504 mt in March 2019, down 5.4 percent from February and down 19.9 percent from March 2018 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $47.9 million in March 2018, compared to $51.9 million in the previous month and $65.8 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Spain in March, with 56,291 mt, compared to 399 mt in February and zero tonnage in March 2018. Other top sources of imported rebar in March include Bulgaria, with 15,870 mt; Dominican Republic, with 10,567 mt; Mexico, with 5,616 mt; and Turkey, with 2,212 mt.
