US rebar imports down 26.4 percent in April

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 67,327 mt in April 2019, down 26.4 percent from March and down 60.2 percent from April 2018 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $43.5 million in April 2018, compared to $47.5 million in the previous month and $99.8 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Italy in April, with 29,455 mt, compared to zero tonnage in March and 22,292 mt in April 2018. Other top sources of imported rebar in April include Mexico, with 11,748 mt; South Africa, with 10,033 mt; Dominican Republic, with 10,002 mt; and Brazil, with 5,645 mt.
