US rebar imports down 16.1 percent in March

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 72,097 mt in March 2020, down 16.1 percent from February and down 21.2 percent from March 2019 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $36.1 million in March 2020, compared to $39.3 million in the previous month and $47.9 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Spain in March, with 26,165 mt, compared to zero tonnage in February and 56,291 mt in March 2019. Other top sources of imported rebar in March include Mexico, with 20,324 mt; Turkey, with 19,747 mt; and Canada, with 4,909 mt.
