US raw steel production up 5.2 percent week-on-week

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending on May 9, 2020, domestic raw steel production was 1,204,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 53.7 percent.

Production for the week ending May 9, 2020 is up 5.2 percent from the previous week ending May 2, 2020 when production was 1,144,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 51.1 percent.

Production was 1,880,000 net tons in the week ending May 9, 2019 while the capability utilization then was 80.8 percent. The current week production represents a 36.0 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year.

Adjusted year-to-date production through May 9, 2020 was 30,859,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.2 percent. That is down 12.4 percent from the 35,218,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 81.4 percent.
