US raw steel production increases 2.1 percent week-on-week

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending on October 7, 2017, US domestic raw steel production was 1,741,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 74.7 percent.

Production for the week ending October 7, 2017 is up 2.1 percent from the previous week ending September 30, 2017 when production was 1,706,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 73.2 percent.

Production was 1,655,000 net tons in the week ending October 7, 2016 while the capability utilization then was 70.8 percent. The current week production represents a 5.2 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.

Adjusted year-to-date production through October 7, 2017 was 69,545,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 74.6 percent. That is up 3.7 percent from the 67,045,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 72.2 percent.
