According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending on August 4, 2018, US domestic raw steel production was 1,828,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 78.0 percent.
Production for the week ending August 4, 2018 is down 0.4 percent from the previous week ending July 28, 2018 when production was 1,836,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 78.3 percent.
Production was 1,752,000 net tons in the week ending August 4, 2017 while the capability utilization then was 75.2 percent. The current week production represents a 4.3 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.
Adjusted year-to-date production through August 4, 2018 was 55,416,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 76.8 percent. That is up 3.5 percent from the 53,522,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 74.4 percent.
