According to American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending on March 21, 2020, US domestic raw steel production was 1,852,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 79.4 percent.
Production for the week ending March 21, 2020 is down 1.4 percent from the previous week ending March 14, 2020 when production was 1,878,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 80.5 percent.
Production was 1,913,000 net tons in the week ending March 21, 2019, while the capability utilization then was 82.2 percent. The current week production represents a 3.2 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.
Adjusted year-to-date production through March 21, 2020 was 21,983,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 81.5 percent. That is up 0.1 percent from the 21,968,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 81.6 percent.
