According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending on December 1, 2018, US domestic raw steel production was 1,892,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 80.7 percent.
Production for the week ending December 1, 2018 is down 0.7 percent from the previous week ending November 24, 2018 when production was 1,906,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 81.3 percent.
Production was 1,703,000 net tons in the week ending December 1, 2017 while the capability utilization then was 73.0 percent. The current week production represents an 11.1 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.
Adjusted year-to-date production through December 1, 2018 was 87,528,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 78.1 percent. That is up 5.7 percent from the 82,780,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 74.2 percent.
