US raw steel production continues weekly uptrend

In the week ending March 13, 2010, domestic raw steel production in the US was 1,715,000 net tons (nt), a +1.9 percent increase from the 1,683,000 nt produced in the previous week, and a +74.5 percent increase compared to the 983,000 nt produced in the same week of 2009.  Capability utilization for the week ending March 13, 2010 was 70.9 percent, an increase from both the previous week's rate of 69.6 percent and the 41.1 percent during the same week of 2009.

Adjusted year-to-date production through March 13, 2010 was 16,667,000 nt, at a capability utilization rate of 67.0 percent. That is a +57.5 percent increase from the 10,582,000 nt during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 42.9 percent.
