US raw steel capacity utilization rate drops below 70 percent

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that the capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 69.7 percent in the week ending October 20, compared to 70.3 percent in the previous week and 71.9 percent in the same week last year.

US raw steel production fell by 0.8 percent last week, following a 1.2 percent decline a week ago and a 1.3 percent drop the week prior.

Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,722,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 0.8 percent drop from the 1,736,000 nt produced in the previous week and a 3.3 percent decrease from the 1,781,000 nt produced in the same week a year ago.
