US plates in coil imports up 7.8 percent in October

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 132,733 mt in October 2018, up 7.8 percent from September and up 7.9 percent from October 2017 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $102.9 million in October 2018, compared to $94.7 million in the previous month and $85.7 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in October, with 56,314 mt, compared to 51,212 mt in September and 57,776 mt in October 2017. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in October include Korea, with 27,766 mt; Mexico, with 15,358 mt; Netherlands, with 15,056 mt; Germany, with 5,163 mt; and Egypt, with 4,598 mt.
