US plates in coil imports up 60.1 percent in March

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coils totaled 135,484 mt in March 2018, up 60.1 percent from February and up 63.9 percent from March 2017 levels. By value, plates in coils imports totaled $95.8 million in March 2018, compared to $59.0 million in the previous month and $57.6 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most plates in coils from Canada in March, with 75,295 mt, compared to 52,930 mt in February and 54,673 mt in March 2017. Other top sources of imported plates in coils in March include Korea, with 15,796 mt; Mexico, with 13,401 mt; Turkey, with 5,838 mt; Japan, with 5,091 mt; and Netherlands, with 5,086 mt.
