US plates in coil imports up 23.5 percent in July

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 119,296 mt in July 2018, up 23.5 percent from June and up 12.3 percent from July 2017 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $95.2 million in July 2018, compared to $74.6 million in the previous month and $72.3 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in July, with 56,901 mt, compared to 47,272 mt in June and 48,398 mt in July 2017. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in July include Mexico, with 13,144 mt; Turkey, with 10,180 mt; Korea, with 7,858 mt; Germany, with 6,942 mt; and Netherlands, with 6,465 mt.
