According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 96,201 mt in July 2019, up 22.9 percent from June but down 19.4 percent from July 2018 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $66.4 million in July 2019, compared to $53.8 million in the previous month and $95.2 million in the same month last year.
The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in July, with 63,951 mt, compared to 44,372 mt in June and 56,901 mt in July 2018. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in July include Netherlands, with 8,180 mt; Sweden, with 7,394 mt; Germany, with 3,975 mt; and Korea, with 3,916 mt.
