US plates in coil imports up 14 percent in October

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 81,755 mt in October 2019, up 14.0 percent from September but down 38.4 percent from October 2018 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $52.2 million in October 2019, compared to $47.1 million in the previous month and $102.9 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in October, with 63,618 mt, compared to 53,816 mt in September and 56,314 mt in October 2018. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in October include Germany, with 4,726 mt; Sweden, with 4,081 mt; Netherlands, with 4,034 mt; and Mexico, with 1,804 mt.
