According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 113,032 mt in August 2018, down 5.3 percent from July but up 25.5 percent from August 2017 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $92.5 million in August 2018, compared to $95.2 million in the previous month and $63.3 million in the same month last year.
The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in August, with 65,245 mt, compared to 56,901 mt in July and 54,227 mt in August 2017. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in August include Korea, with 12,160 mt; Mexico, with 10,763 mt; Netherlands, with 5,920 mt; Turkey, with 4,387 mt; and Japan, with 3,366 mt.
