US plates in coil imports down 33.9 percent in June

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 95,699 mt in June 2018, down 33.9 percent from May and down 29.1 percent from June 2017 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $73.3 million in June 2018, compared to $116.4 million in the previous month and $92.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in June, with 47,272 mt, compared to 90,009 mt in May and 52,826 mt in June 2017. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in June include Germany, with 9,730 mt; Mexico, with 6,152 mt; Korea, with 5,278 mt; Turkey, with 4,202 mt; and Japan, with 4,112 mt.
