US plates in coil imports down 15.8 percent in March

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 62,097 mt in March 2020, down 15.8 percent from February and down 35.3 percent from March 2019 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $38.6 million in March 2020, compared to $45.5 million in the previous month and $71.9 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in March, with 50,586 mt, compared to 58,274 mt in February and 46,868 mt in March 2019. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in March include Korea, with 3,954 mt; Sweden, with 2,708 mt; and New Zealand, with 1,746 mt.
