US plates in coil imports down 12.2 percent in June

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 78,216 mt in June 2019, down 12.2 percent from May and down 19.0 percent from June 2018 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $53.8 million in June 2019, compared to $63.4 million in the previous month and $74.6 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in June, with 44,372 mt, compared to 41,568 mt in May and 47,272 mt in June 2018. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in June include Korea, with 14,366 mt; Netherlands, with 4,995 mt; Germany, with 4,396 mt; and Sweden, with 4,045 mt.
