US plates in coil exports up 28 percent in January

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of plates in coil totaled 40,918 mt in January 2020, up 28.0 percent from December and up 55.4 percent from January 2019 levels. By value, plates in coil exports totaled $35.3 million in January, compared to $26.9 million in the previous month and $23.3 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most plates in coil to Mexico in January with 28,853 mt, compared to 23,935 mt in December and 22,052 mt in January 2019. Other top destinations included Canada, with 10,709 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US plates in coil exports in January.
