US plates in coil exports up 17.1 percent in May

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of plates in coil totaled 29,451 mt in May 2019, up 17.1 percent from April but down 7.7 percent from May 2018 levels. By value, plates in coil exports totaled $27.3 million in May, compared to $23.7 million in the previous month and $27.9 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most plates in coil to Mexico in May with 24,453 mt, compared to 20,110 mt in April and 19,572 mt in May 2018. Other top destinations included Canada, with 3,904 mt. There were no other major destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US export plates in coil in May.
