US pig iron imports up 10 percent for January to September period

According to US Census Bureau data, the US imported 4,338,201 mt of pig iron in the January to September period of 2018, up 10 percent from 3,936,728 mt of pig iron in the same nine-month period of 2017.

In the nine-month period, the US imported 2,261,679 mt (52 percent) from Russia, 1,400,177 mt (32 percent) from Ukraine, 472,909 mt (11 percent) from Brazil, 132,242 mt (3 percent) from South Africa, 39,840 mt (1 percent) from Latvia, 24,467 mt (1 percent) from Canada, and the remaining 6,887 from other sources including Germany.

In the nine-month period the previous year, the US imported 2,150,107 mt (55 percent) from Russia, 852,659 mt (22 percent) from the Ukraine, and 735,727 mt (19 percent from Brazil. The remaining 198,235 mt (5 percent) included India, South Africa, Canada and others.
