US OCTG imports surge up 77.9 percent in January

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of oil country tubular goods (OCTG) totaled 334,820 mt in January 2018, up 77.9 percent from December and up 99.1 percent from January 2017 levels. By value, OCTG imports totaled $345.2 million in January 2018, compared to $225.2 million in the previous month and $149.7 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most OCTG from Korea in January, with 113,520 mt, compared to 35,959 mt in December and 79,178 mt in January 2017. Other top sources of imported OCTG in January include Mexico, with 34,981 mt; Taiwan, with 25,336 mt; Argentina, with 25,093 mt; Russia, with 21,099 mt; and Brazil, with 17,993 mt.
