According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of light shaped bar (merchant bar) totaled 3,197 mt in July 2019, down 15.6 percent from June but up 52.4 percent from July 2018 levels. By value, merchant bar exports totaled $2.6 million in July, compared to $3.1 million in the previous month and $2.0 million the same month last year.
The US shipped the most merchant bar to Mexico in July with 1,104 mt, compared to 2,078 mt in June and 587 mt in July 2018. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US merchant bar exports in July.
