US mechanical tubing imports down 2.6 percent in May

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of mechanical tubing totaled 39,930 mt in May 2019, down 2.6 percent from April and down 34.5 percent from May 2018 levels. By value, mechanical tubing imports totaled $60.1 million in May 2019, compared to $63.2 million in the previous month and $90.8 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most mechanical tubing from Mexico in May, with 11,296 mt, compared to 12,762 mt in April and 18,988 mt in May 2018. Other top sources of imported mechanical tubing in May include Canada, with 7,447 mt; Germany, with 4,236 mt; China, with 3,106 mt; and Romania, with 2,178 mt.
