US mechanical tubing imports down 10.5 percent in December

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of mechanical tubing totaled 40,847 mt in December 2019, down 10.5 percent from November but up 5.7 percent from December 2018 levels. By value, mechanical tubing imports totaled $55.3 million in December 2019, compared to $70.1 million in the previous month and $58.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most mechanical tubing from Mexico in December, with 19,019 mt, compared to 16,584 mt in November and 10,341 mt in December 2018. Other top sources of imported mechanical tubing in December include Canada, with 6,133 mt; Germany, with 3,343 mt; Japan, with 1,281 mt; and Vietnam, with 1,130 mt.
