US line pipe imports up 33.9 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of line pipe totaled 250,717 mt in September 2017, up 33.9 percent from August and up 320.8 percent from September 2016 levels. By value, line pipe imports totaled $224.8 million in September 2017, compared to $168.3 million in the previous month and $51.7 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most line pipe from Korea in September, with 78,245 mt, compared to 62,985 mt in August and 19,330 mt in September 2016. Other top sources of imported line pipe in September include India, with 65,216 mt; Germany, with 21,821 mt; Canada, with 17,884 mt; Mexico, with 13,748 mt; and Japan, with 12,469 mt.
