US line pipe imports surge up 88.2 percent in April

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of line pipe totaled 251,594 mt in April 2018, up 88.2 percent from March and up 94.5 percent from April 2017 levels. By value, line pipe imports totaled $242.5 million in April 2018, compared to $137.6 million in the previous month and $96.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most line pipe from Korea in April, with 119,315 mt, compared to 31,940 mt in March and 49,865 mt in April 2017. Other top sources of imported line pipe in April include Canada, with 24,931 mt; Greece, with 23,233 mt; Mexico, with 15,113 mt; Brazil, with 11,309 mt; and Germany, with 10,193 mt.
