US line pipe imports rise 61.1 percent in January

According to delayed final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of line pipe totaled 299,790 mt in January 2019, up 61.1 percent from December and up 68.3 percent from January 2018 levels. By value, line pipe imports totaled $328.9 million in January 2018, compared to $216.7 million in the previous month and $167.4 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most line pipe from Korea in January, with 73,853 mt, compared to 3,292 mt in December and 80,141 mt in January 2018. Other top sources of imported line pipe in January include Canada, with 32,704 mt; Germany, with 29,110 mt; Turkey, with 27,985 mt; Greece, with 27,338 mt; and Japan, with 15,048 mt.
