US line pipe imports rise 29.1 percent in May

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of line pipe totaled 166,938 mt in May 2017, up 29.1 percent from April and up 102.9 percent from May 2016 levels. By value, line pipe imports totaled $146.9 million in May 2017, compared to $96.5 million in the previous month and $73.0 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most line pipe from Korea in May, with 57,168 mt, compared to 49,865 mt in April and 29,673 mt in May 2016. Other top sources of imported line pipe in May include India, with 41,613 mt; Canada, with 22,209 mt; Mexico, with 10,940 mt; Italy, with 8,480 mt; and Germany, with 6,035 mt.
