US line pipe imports down 9.1 percent in August

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of line pipe totaled 187,197 mt in August 2017, down 9.1 percent from July but up 68.9 percent from August 2016 levels. By value, line pipe imports totaled $168.2 million in August 2017, compared to $182.9 million in the previous month and $80.6 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most line pipe from Korea in August, with 62,985 mt, compared to 61,691 mt in July and 44,026 mt in August 2016. Other top sources of imported line pipe in August include India, with 38,807 mt; Canada, with 18,873 mt; Mexico, with 14,270 mt; Germany, with 14,016 mt; and Taiwan, with 6,712 mt.
