US line pipe imports down 7.9 percent in August

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of line pipe totaled 157,142 mt in August 2018, down 7.9 percent from July and down 16.1 percent from August 2017 levels. By value, line pipe imports totaled $177.7 million in August 2018, compared to $181.5 million in the previous month and $168.3 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most line pipe from Canada in August, with 42,478 mt, compared to 15,912 mt in July and 18,873 mt in August 2017. Other top sources of imported line pipe in August include Mexico, with 20,693 mt; Germany, with 15,074 mt; United Kingdom, with 11,589 mt; Greece, with 10,841 mt; and Taiwan, with 9,356 mt.
