US line pipe imports down 5.6 percent in March

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of line pipe totaled 182,459 mt in March 2019, down 5.6 percent from February but up 36.5 percent from March 2018 levels. By value, line pipe imports totaled $194.7 million in March 2018, compared to $212.2 million in the previous month and $137.6 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most line pipe from Canada in March, with 29,883 mt, compared to 91,525 mt in February and 19,704 mt in March 2018. Other top sources of imported line pipe in March include Thailand, with 26,786 mt; Taiwan, with 20,131 mt; Korea, with 17,788 mt; Japan, with 14,034 mt; and Germany, with 12,735 mt.
