US line pipe imports down 34.7 percent in February

According to delayed final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of line pipe totaled 193,207 mt in February 2019, down 34.7 percent from January but up 44.6 percent from February 2018 levels. By value, line pipe imports totaled $212.2 million in February 2018, compared to $328.9 million in the previous month and $136.6 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most line pipe from Canada in February, with 91,525 mt, compared to 32,704 mt in January and 18,046 mt in February 2018. Other top sources of imported line pipe in February include Korea, with 19,119 mt; Thailand, with 14,568 mt; Turkey, with 14,439 mt; Japan, with 10,979 mt; and Mexico, with 10,357 mt.
