US line pipe imports down 15.4 percent in May

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of line pipe totaled 127,115 mt in May 2019, down 15.4 percent from April and down 19.7 percent from May 2018 levels. By value, line pipe imports totaled $128.7 million in May 2019, compared to $159.8 million in the previous month and $162.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most line pipe from Korea in May, with 52,719 mt, compared to 42,454 mt in April and 27,023 mt in May 2018. Other top sources of imported line pipe in May include Japan, with 13,092 mt; Mexico, with 11,035 mt; Taiwan, with 10,932 mt; and South Africa, with 7,031 mt.
