US line pipe imports down 12.3 percent in December

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of line pipe totaled 66,834 mt in December 2019, down 12.3 percent from November and down 63.6 percent from December 2018 levels. By value, line pipe imports totaled $70.2 million in December 2019, compared to $88.9 million in the previous month and $216.7 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most line pipe from Korea in December, with 27,917 mt, compared to 15,483 mt in November and 3,292 mt in December 2018. Other top sources of imported line pipe in December include Canada, with 10,293 mt; Germany, with 7,308 mt; Mexico, with 6,174 mt; and Japan, with 3,634 mt.
