US iron and steel scrap exports up 6.8 percent in August

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,561,452 mt in August 2018, a 6.8 percent increase month-on-month and a 21.3 percent increase year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in August with 299,578 mt, down 18.5 percent month-on-month and down 8.2 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in August 2018 include: Taiwan, with 182,397 mt; Mexico, with 153,251 mt; Egypt, with 140,341 mt; and Indonesia, with 97,940 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $547.8 million in August 2018, a 10.3 percent increase compared to July and a 30.7 percent increase compared to August 2017.
