US iron and steel scrap exports up 2.8 percent in April

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,476,986 mt in April 2019, a 2.8 percent increase month-on-month but a 4.7 percent decrease year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in April with 201,173 mt, down 45.9 percent month-on-month and down 38.8 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in April 2019 include: Canada, with 154,348 mt; Taiwan, with 145,547 mt; Malaysia, with 142,139 mt; and Vietnam, with 121,623 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $454.4 million in April 2019, a 0.3 percent decrease compared to March and a 17.5 percent decrease compared to April 2018.
